Apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk, specializing in wholesale

Wholesale and foreign trade merchants specializing in wholesale organize the exchange of goods and services in import transactions in our company. They observe the national procurement market, determine sources of supply and their goods requirements and obtain offers. After purchasing the goods, they check invoices and delivery documents and calculate prices for resale. They conduct purchasing, consulting and sales talks with suppliers and customers. Her tasks also include handling cost accounting processes, processing complaints and organizing marketing measures.

Where do you work?

Merchants in wholesale and foreign trade specializing in wholesale find employment in companies in almost all sectors of the economy.

Merchants in wholesale work in offices and/or in the field

Which school leaving certificate?

Legally no particular education is required. In practice, however, it is advisable to have at least a secondary school degree (technical secondary school entrance qualification)

Duration of training?

The training for merchants in wholesale and foreign trade lasts 3 years in the dual training course. You are in the company 3 days a week and at the vocational school 2 days a week.

What is important?

  • Customer orientation, customer readiness and intercultural competence (e.g. in dealing with international customers and suppliers)
  • Diligence (e.g. when checking prices and goods)
  • Negotiation skills and assertiveness (e.g. when conducting contract negotiations on purchase and sales prices, delivery conditions)
  • Commercial thinking (e.g. when preparing calculations and offers)

Training as a specialist warehouse clerk

Warehouse specialists accept goods and check the type, quantity and condition of the deliveries based on the accompanying documents. They record the goods via EDP, unpack them, check their condition, sort and store them properly or forward them to their destination in the company. They make sure that the goods are stored under optimal conditions. They check the inventory at regular intervals and carry out inventories. They pack goods for shipping, fill out accompanying documents, put together delivery units and load trucks. They mark, label and secure shipments. In doing so, they observe relevant regulations, e.g. B. the Dangerous Goods Ordinance and the maximum load. You transport the goods using transport equipment and conveyors, such as forklifts or pallet trucks.

Which school leaving certificate?

Legally no particular education is required. In practice, we mainly hire trainees who have passed their secondary school leaving certificate.

Duration of training?

The training for warehouse clerks takes 2 years in the dual training course. You are in the company 3 days a week and at the vocational school 2 days a week.

Requirements:

  • Good physical condition (e.g. working in unheated and drafty warehouses, cold stores or outdoors at any time of the year, lifting heavy objects by hand)
  • Organizational skills and diligence (e.g. complying with loading and unloading times, allocating storage locations, checking the delivered goods for completeness and integrity)
  • Spatial awareness (e.g. storing goods in the warehouse, taking into account the space, height, nature of the goods, volume and weight)
  • Prudence and a sense of responsibility (e.g. when operating conveyor systems or hoists)
