Fassbender Tenten , that is a term in Bonn – at least for anyone who has ever dealt with a construction site. The family business primarily supplies bulk buyers with building materials and construction site supplies. But "temporary professional customers" are also welcome—people who manage their own construction site with a lot of effort and materials.
On-site appointment in Alfter , the administrative headquarters of Fassbender Tenten Owner and Managing Director Christian Faßbender takes the time for a detailed conversation – and this is necessary because over the years the company has grown enormously with many specialized departments.
What is striking: Faßbender takes a step back and puts his employees in the foreground. All proven, carefully selected and regularly trained experts in their respective fields. "I have great respect for..." is a typical sentence that Faßbender uses to describe road builders, for example.
"They are a people of their own, but everything they do has to be implemented incredibly precisely and professionally." Such people shape the picture in the civil engineering department, where "everything including specialist knowledge" from the wheelbarrow to the custom-made manufacture of a huge sewage pipe passed on to the companies.
Or the building construction department. Christian Faßbender explains that single-family homes are hardly being built anymore, but rather multi-family houses. The future owners of the individual apartments have a significant say in the construction process. Accordingly, not only the experts from the construction companies but also private individuals are increasingly present at the customer service counters, where a major asset of Fassbender Tenten becomes visible: The extensive Service , patient and professional advice as well as knowledge of all imaginable building materials.
This is also very much appreciated by the drywallers, who are seeing a sharp increase in the number of “professional clients on a temporary basis”. “You can do a lot yourself – but you can also do a lot wrong,” explains Christian Faßbender with a smile. “And mistakes will come back to haunt you sooner or later.” That is why advice is so important, especially in Bonn is in great demand in a particularly large specialist area. But the professionals also need more and more advice: architects and implementation planners are often overwhelmed by the multitude of regulations and materials, but the industry passes the relevant information on primarily to specialist retailers. "We therefore fulfil an important advisory and mediating function here," says Faßbender, once again referring to the professionals in his company.
Another core element of the company is the building materials drive-in. What looks like a normal loading area is a highly complex system that has grown over 90 years, consisting of perfected warehousing, sophisticated logistics and extremely fast Service When the customer places an order at the building materials counter, an instruction is sent to the forklift driver, who knows the current storage location of the goods using a number. He fetches the counted material and brings it to the customer's vehicle. This process takes an average of three minutes. This is the only way to ensure that the many suppliers, our own Fassbender Tenten -Trucks and of course customers do not get in each other's way.
There would be much more to tell. From logisticians and drivers who can also operate special cranes with millimeter precision, from extremely professional warehouse managers and dispatchers who think in highly complex ways. But the bottom line is that Christian Faßbender's statement remains: "Bringing complicated, heavy goods to the right place on time with the right advice and at the right speed is a real Herculean task!"
